Gold Mining: The Race to Ravenous Ruin - Carson Creek Trail Hike

Were the "glory days" of the gold rush as glorious as you imagined? Enjoy spectacular lake views as you walk along with Ranger Kevin to discover the lives of the gold miners; the hardships they endured and the glories they celebrated. The origin of names for many of our local areas will also be revealed.

This is an easy 3-4 mile hike. Meet at the Glory Hole Entrance Station at 9 a.m. Participants will receive a parking pass for the duration of the event. We will caravan down to the trailhead parking.

Bring plenty of water and clothing appropriate for the weather. All hikes are weather permitting.

Join us for an up-close view of ticks and mosquitoes under the microscopes of Environmental Health Technician Marty Scholl. Learn the breeding patterns of these parasites, what to be aware of if bitten, and when to be especially careful on the trail. I’ll give you a hint: It isn’t the summer!

All presentations begin at 7:00 p.m. at the New Melones Lake Visitor Center, 6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370. Located on Highway 49 midway between the historic Gold Rush towns of Sonora and Angels Camp. We look forward to seeing you there.

The fall speaker series is free of charge, no reservations necessary.

Discover the natural wonders along the trail of Natural Bridges as you explore with Ranger Phil. Hear the stories of "Old Bach" and the early inhabitants of this unique location.

This is a moderate to strenuous, 1 mile, downhill hike. Participants may return uphill on their own. Meet at the Natural Bridges Trailhead on Parrots Ferry Road.

This is a 2-mile walk to the top of Table Mountain. Be prepared for a 1/4 mile series of rocky switchbacks to make it to the top-it’s worth it! Meet at the Table Mountain trailhead on Shell Road at 9 a.m. or meet at the New Melones Visitor Center & Museum at 8 a.m. and caravan.
